BREF HISTORIQUE DE L’AMBASSADE A DAKAR
Le Gouvernement de la République du Kenya a ouvert son Ambassade résidente à Dakar, au Sénégal, le 8 janvier 2020. Le groupe des fonctionnaires précurseurs du Ministère des Affaires Etrangères était composé de l’Ambassadeur Mme Purity W. Muhindi, (MBS) Mr. Anthony Safari, Premier Conseiller, Mr. James Karani, Attaché Financier, et de Mlle Lilian Obonyo, Attachée Administrative. Mr. Danny Mukhobi Ambale Dishon, Deuxième Secrétaire, a rejoint le personnel en septembre de la même année. La nouvelle équipe a eu la chance de rencontrer la Communauté Kenyane au Sénégal (KENSEN), très accueillante et bien organisée sous la houlette de Mr. Godfrey Mawaa et de Mr Franklin Omondi.
L’ouverture de la mission a été historique puisqu’il s’agissait de la première Ambassade Kenyane en Afrique de l’Ouest Francophone. La présentation des lettres de créance par l’Ambassadeur MUHINDI à S.E. Mr Macky Sall, Président de la République du Sénégal, le 10 mars 2020, a ouvert de nouvelles perspectives pour renforcer la coopération bilatérale avec la République du Sénégal, qui dispose d’une mission résidente à Nairobi.
L’Ambassade est actuellement accréditée auprès de la République du Mali, de la Guinée-Bissau et de la Gambie. Par l’intermédiaire de son Ambassade, le Kenya souhaite établir des relations politiques et socio-économiques solides et mutuellement bénéfiques avec le Sénégal et les pays de la sous-région, en s’appuyant sur l’Agenda 2063 de l’Afrique et en tirant notamment profit des perspectives et du potentiel offert par la Zone de libre-échange continentale africaine (ZLECA).
Installée dans le contexte de la pandémie mondiale COVID 19 et des défis qui en découlent, l’Ambassade a néanmoins facilité de nombreux événements bénéfiques, notamment des visites de hauts dirigeants du secteur privé et public.
La mission a été particulièrement honorée de recevoir S.E. le Président William Samoei Ruto, qui a officiellement procédé à l’ouverture de l’Ambassade le 26 janvier 2023.
BRIEF HISTORY OF THE EMBASSY IN DAKAR
The Government of the Republic of Kenya, opened its resident embassy in Dakar, Republic of Senegal, on 8th January, 2020. The pioneer group of officers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were Ambassador Purity W. Muhindi, (MBS) Mr. Anthony Safari, First Counsellor, Mr. James Karani, Financial Attaché and Ms. Lilian Obonyo, the Administrative Attaché. Mr. Danny Mukhobi Ambale Dishon, Second Secretary, joined the staff in September the same year. The new team was fortunate to find a welcoming, well organised Kenyan Community in Senegal (KENSEN), under the very able leadership of Mr Godfrey Mawaa and Franklin Omondi.
The opening of the mission was historic as it was the first Kenyan embassy in Francophone West Africa. The presentation of credentials by Amb Muhindi, to H.E. Macky Sall, President of the Republic of Senegal on 10th March, 2020, opened new opportunities for more enhanced engagements in bilateral cooperation with the Republic of Senegal, which has a resident mission in Nairobi.
The Embassy is currently accredited to the Republics of Mali, Guinea Bissau and the Gambia. Through the Embassy, Kenya’s vision is to build strong mutually beneficial political and socio-economic relations with Senegal and countries in the region, underpinned by Africa’s Agenda 2063, leveraging in particular on the prospects and potential offered by the Africa Continental Free Trade Area.
The Embassy, which was established under the shadow of the COVID 19 global pandemic, and its resultant challenges, has nonetheless facilitated numerous positive developments, including high level visits by private and public sector officials.
The mission was singularly honoured to receive H.E. President William Samoei Ruto, who officially opened the Embassy on 26th January, 2023.
